The village of Oberammergau is located in the south of Germany and in Bavaria's largest nature reserve, the Ammergau Alps: a Passion Play location and world-famous as the center of carving, a climatic health resort and a holiday paradise, affectionatelly called O'gau by the locals.

Framed by the local mountains "Kofel" and "Laber", Oberammergau lies at around 900 meters on the Ammer Alpine river.

From the Lüftlmalereck, located right next to the church, we recommend walks through the picturesque town with its many houses decorated with "Lüftl" paintings. Cafés, restaurants and small shops with carving art, as well as the museum complete the walk.

A very special attraction is the Passion Play, where the Passion is performed every ten years, next time in 2022.

In other years operas, concerts and plays can also be seen there in summer.

Numerous hikes can be started directly in Oberammergau. The two local mountains "Kofel" and "Laber" are within walking distance. The summer toboggan run at the local "Kolbensattel" is always an experience, but also the climbing forest, mountain bike tours, riding tours, etc. A swim in the Ammer, the numerous Upper Bavarian lakes or in the local swimming pool refreshes in between. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is about twenty minutes away by car and is definitely worth seeing, especially the "Zugspitze" there, Germany's highest mountain. In a few minutes by car or on foot you can reach the famous "Ettal" monastery and the royal palace of Ludwig II "Linderhof" to which beautiful hikes lead.

In winter there are numerous trails, the local ski area "Kolbensattel" invites you to go skiing. If that's not enough for you, you can go a little further to the ski world of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A special cross-country highlight is always the "König-Ludwig-Lauf" on the first weekend in February.

The small shops and supermarkets that are a maximum of 900 meters away provide food.

Should you be drawn to the big city, Munich with all its cultural and culinary possibilities is only an hour's drive away.
